Georgia's Gifted Goals
Goal 1: Advanced ResearchGifted learners tend to have a large knowledge base and learn at an accelerated pace. Many are highly curious and intrinsically motivated to pursue topics that interest them. Therefore, curriculum for gifted students should allow some time for in-depth learning of self-directed topics within an area of study.
Goal 2: Creative Thinking & Problem SolvingMany gifted learners have the ability to generate original ideas and are able to see unusual relationships. Sometimes these ideas can be perceived as odd or off task, which can lead to inhibition of creative thinking. The gifted program must provide an environment in which students feel safe to take risks and experiment with ideas so that creativity can be developed.
Goal 3: Critical Thinking & Problem SolvingEdglossary defines critical thinking as "a term used by educators to describe forms of learning, thought and analysis that go beyond the memorization of facts." Gifted students take less time to learn new material and master new skills. Curriculum and instruction should be designed so that capable students can spend a larger portion of their time on higher order thinking and developing a deeper understanding of concepts.
Goal 4: Advanced CommunicationCurriculum for gifted students should encourage the use of new techniques, materials and formats that allow them to communicate clearly and effectively with real audiences.
